National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) vice chairman Federico Fernandez will take the witness stand at 2 p.m. today, Monday, March 31, 2008, when the Court of Appeals Special Third Division hears the petition for a writ of amparo (CA-G.R. SP NO. 00022 WR/A) filed Nilo Baculo, Sr., a former broadcaster and publisher from, against Calapan City Mayor Paulino Salvador Leachon, Vice Mayor Rafael L. Infantado, City Administrator Antonio S Perez, and several other incumbent and past city officials.
Baculo filed the petition after going into hiding because of an alleged plot on his life, which he blamed on the respondents.
In an order issued March 18, Associate Justice Rosmari D. Carandang, chair of the third division, said: “Considering that there is yet no return of Service of the writ as well as the notice if hearing to the respondents who are all residents of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, at the instance of the petitioner himself, who represented by his counsel, the initial hearing of this case, to receive evidence from the petitioner shall be conducted on March 31, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Service of the notice of hearing from this court upon all respondents will be done through LBC and by way of telegram.”
The order was also signed by Associate Justices Mariflor P. Punzalan Castillo and Ricardo R. Rosario.
