The Freedom Fund for Filipino Journalists (FFFJ) invites you to a press briefing on the latest developments in the prosecution of the alleged masterminds in the murder of Marlene Esperat (Criminal Case No. CBU-82237 also known as People of the Philippines vs. Osmeña Montañer et al.).

The briefing will be held on Wednesday May 28, 2008 at 12 nn at the Center Ballroom, G/F Diamond Hotel (Roxas Boulevard cor. Dr. J. Quintos St.)  as part of the program of the annual meeting of the Philippine Press Institute.

With arrest warrants issued for the suspects in February this year, the Cebu Court of Appeals issued a temporary restraining order effective 60 days on the case and last week granted a preliminary injunction. The case is now indefinitely “frozen.”

Attys. Joel Butuyan and Rommel Bagares will provide legal analysis on the implications of these developments. Jose Pavia, chairman of the Freedom Fund for Filipino Journalists, Inc. and Melinda de Jesus, executive director of the Center for Media Freedom & Responsibility, will also take questions.
